PSP UMD Window Tutorial.

Everybody was wanting me to write a tut on how to do the UMD window mod. Well here it is, but it is ogign to have no pics, because I have already windowed the only PSP I have. If anybody wishes to donate me some money or a UMD door, I can get pics. :icon_bigg Anyways, here is the tut...

1. Follow the guide here to remove the UMD door.

2. Take a small, thin flat head screwdriver, and peel the metal ring up.

3. Go somewhere with alot of light, take you dremel. :humped:

4. Use a jigsaw attachment to cut a small hole in the middle up the big hole you will be windowing.

5. Take you sanding attachment (It should be a circle about 3/4 an inch) and put you Dremel on low speed.

6. With that sanding attachment slowly sand outwards to the line. Sand all the way around, but leave a millimeter or two.

7. Take some sandpaper (120 grit) and sand around inside the line. Untill you get the desired circle.

If you have a PGP case, goto step 10

8. Take some plexi and and get Lowes or Home Depot to cut it to the exact measurments of the PSP window. Take the UMD door in so they can get the measurments.

9. Affix the plexi with some type of glue. That is up to you.

10. Re-attach the UMD door following the same tutorial on the llamma site that I linked to at the top of this tut.

10a. If you have a PGP, you do not need to attach Plexi, because the PGP covers the UMD window. You may still attach plexi if you want.

I was wondering because you can mod a psp, but you said your mum finally let you get premium. Nothing personal just a bit curious.

Anyway nice tut man, keep it up.

This is really good, especially for a 14 yo. What risks are there to doing this? I really know nothing about the internal workings of the PSP.

Well, you could always lose a few screws, or you could tear a ribbion cable.... thres alot of stuff that could go wronf, but just be careful. Also practice dremeling on other, less cool things, like a DS. :icon_bigg Jk, I love my ds.

Thanks. My parents said that I have always been a big tinkerer. I started overclocking comps and messing with windows when I was 8/9. I guess that can also classify me as a nerd. :(

PS: When I was 11 I went around my elementaray school deleting critical windows files from the Hdds... I porbaly f'ed up 30 or so computer... nobody ever found out it was me :mrgreen:

Im 15 and my dad would never let me touch the innards of the PSP. I can't wait till Im earning my own income, then Im gonna be modding like theres no tommorow :icon_bigg

I can't wait to see the finished product though lostspartan, its gonna be some sweet shizzle, especially the UMD Drive. That ****ing rocks the most, Im suprised Sony did'nt think of having the UMD Drive viewable like that. Such a brilliant idea...

the reason sony probably didnt put this in is because if the laser were to turn on trying to read a disk it would point out and if its pointed at somones eye they could get sued

EDIT: ima do this in a few days when i got free time. neways. i just turned 14 my mom will let me do w/e the hell i want to do with my stuff cuz i have to pay for it so she doesnt care :P

Yea, I decided not to. I dont like the look of LED's in portables they distract to much from the screen.

no, not really. just make sure to be VERY careful. after a few times of doing it i got a bit hasty and ended up accidentally ripping the lcd backlight power connection from the pcb. i soldered some wires on to the pcb to replace it so no biggie... i guess that kinda means i have modded a psp now :Punk:
